The 'Sasang Forest Experience Education Center', located within Sasang Neighborhood Park, has finally received designation of the operator and approval of the implementation plan, marking the official start of the project. This education center is situated at 116 Gwaebap-dong, Sasang-gu, and spans an area of 16,500㎡. The building is designed to be three stories above ground, with a building area of 1,599.30㎡ and a total floor area of 1,861.09㎡. This project is expected to provide local residents with opportunities to closely connect with nature.

It is located near Sasang Station on the Gyeongbu Line, and the entity overseeing the project is the Mayor of Busan. The goal is to commence construction within six months after approval, and to complete it within 18 months of commencement.

The design selected in the 2024 design competition is by Lala Hoho Architecture Office. This design encapsulates the idea of wooden architecture that allows one to feel nature in the urban setting.

This building is designed using a combination of wooden frame and reinforced concrete.
It will provide various indoor and outdoor experiential spaces such as a forest learning room, woodworking experience room, forest library, and multipurpose auditorium.

This building is designed to serve dual functions of exhibition and experience. It is being recognized as a prime example of eco-friendly architecture suited for the carbon-neutral era.

The total project cost is approximately 15.5 billion KRW, with 13 billion KRW allocated to construction costs. This project is selected under the Forest Service's ‘Domestic Timber Wooden Construction Demonstration Project’, with the national and city budgets each providing half of the funding. Additionally, an extra 2.5 billion KRW in city funding will be injected to create a sensory experience forest, forest exploration trails, and a children’s experiential forest.

Currently, the permitting process related to the building permit is underway. Construction is planned to begin as soon as the process is completed. The original goal was to complete by the end of 2026, but based on the construction schedule, it is highly likely that completion and opening will occur in early 2027.

After opening, it is expected to become a center for urban forest education and wood culture in the heart of Sasang-gu. This place is anticipated to provide rich experiences and learning opportunities for citizens and children.
