Extension of Line 3, the Songpa-Hanam Line is coming!

The extension of Seoul Subway Line 3 to Hanam officially begins. The basic plan for the 'Songpa-Hanam metropolitan railway' has been approved, with an opening aimed for 2032.
This project is expected to significantly transform the traffic situation in the southeastern metropolitan area. It plays a crucial role in the metropolitan transport plan for the Hanam Gyosan district, which holds great importance in connecting Seoul and Hanam quickly and conveniently.
Project Overview – Total length of 11.7km, 6 new stations

The Songpa-Hanam Line is a light rail line that starts from Ogeum Station on Seoul Subway Line 3 and connects to Hanam City Hall Station. This line stretches a total length of 11.7km, allowing for a transfer to Line 5 at Hanam City Hall Station.

A total of 6 stations are planned, one of which will be located in Bangi-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul. The remaining five stations will be established in the Gamil and Gyosan districts of Hanam City.
This project is scheduled to take place between 2022 and 2032, with a total budget estimated at approximately 1 trillion 8,356 billion won. This funding will be shared with 65% by LH, 30% by GH, and 5% by Hanam City Public Works.
This project is set to be implemented by the City of Seoul, Gyeonggi Province, and Hanam City.
Route map and station locations (planned)

There are a total of 6 planned stations. The existing Ogeum Station serves as the starting point for Line 3.
In the Gamil district, a station named Hanam-Gamil is planned, and three stations named Hanam-Gyosan 1, 2, and 3 are planned in the Gyosan district.
Finally, Hanam City Hall Station will serve as a transfer station connecting with Line 5 and the terminus.
Expected Effects – 30 minutes shorter to Gangnam, as a metropolitan transport hub!

This is expected to resolve the serious traffic congestion issues in Hanam City while greatly improving access to Gangnam in Seoul. Currently, it takes about 70 minutes to travel from Hanam Gyosan to the Gangnam Express Bus Terminal, but with the opening of the Songpa-Hanam Line, this is predicted to be reduced to about 40 minutes.
Additionally, regions such as Yangjae, Gyodae, and the Express Bus Terminal, which have a large commuting population, will be conveniently connected without transfers. As connections with GTX, SRT, Lines 5, 8, and 9 become possible, it is expected to establish an important transportation network linking eastern Seoul and southeastern Gyeonggi Province. These changes are expected to have a positive impact on both Hanam citizens and Seoul citizens.
