The Gwangandaegyo Bridge, an important bridge in Busan, has reached a new turning point to solve the traffic congestion problems in the sections between Haeundae and Centum City.

The Busan Construction Headquarters announced that the key part of the 'Access Road Construction for Gwangandaegyo Bridge,' the installation of the ramp bridge, has been completed, and from October 30, the lane from Yongho-dong toward Centum City will change from three lanes to two.

This adjustment is a measure to prevent contact accidents between vehicles merging from the ramp bridge and vehicles continuing straight on the main line of Gwangandaegyo Bridge. It is expected that this change will positively affect traffic flow.

A safety shelter will be installed starting from about 1.2 km before entering the Centum City underground bypass. As a result, vehicle traffic will be reduced to one lane. The city of Busan plans to actively provide information through traffic guidance electronic boards and Busan traffic broadcasts to minimize confusion for citizens.

87% Completion Rate, Final Construction Stage Aiming for Year-End Opening

The 'Access Road Construction for Gwangandaegyo Bridge' is currently showing about 87% completion, aiming for completion and opening by the end of 2025.

This project aims to create a road network directly connecting the Olympic intersection in Haeundae-gu and the Jangsan area to the Centum City underground bypass. It is expected to significantly shorten the existing detour.

Once the project is completed, traffic flow in Haeundae, Dongnae, Centum City, the new city, and Songjeong areas will be greatly improved. This is expected to resolve bottlenecks in Centum City and shorten access time to the Haeundae area.

Completion of Link Between Gwangandaegyo Bridge - Centum City - Haeundae Expected

The access road to Gwangandaegyo Bridge is considered the final piece in the urban circulatory transport network of Busan’s Eastern Region, connecting Haeundae to Centum City, Dongnae, and Songjeong.

The Gwangandaegyo Bridge currently serves as a major arterial road linking Yongho-dong in Nam-gu to Haeundae Centum City, experiencing concentrated traffic during commuting hours, often causing bottlenecks. The newly installed ramp bridge is expected to effectively distribute the traffic volume entering the Centum City underground bypass, substantially improving direct connection efficiency.

Upon completion of the construction, vehicles using Gwangandaegyo Bridge will be able to access the center of Centum City without going through the intersections of Haeundae-gu. This signifies a smooth connection between Gwangandaegyo Bridge, Centum City, Songjeong, and Gijang coastal road, which will be instrumental in enhancing the completeness of Busan's coastal circular transportation system.
