Installation Construction of Escalators at Exit 3 of Busan Gyo-dae Station
Approval of the project plan for the facility improvement construction at Gyo-dae Station of the Busan Urban Railway, urban management plan (urban railway)

Two new escalators will be added to Gyo-dae Station of Busan’s Urban Railway Line 1.
The city of Busan announced on July 2 that it has approved the revised construction plan for facility improvements at Gyo-dae Station and publicized the urban management plan and topographic map.

Construction for the facility improvements at Gyo-dae Station in Busan is underway. This project includes the installation of two escalators outside Exit 3 and a reduction in the station area by 134㎡ to a total of 7,349.9㎡.
The Busan Transportation Corporation executes this under the name 'Facility Improvement Construction at Busan Urban Railway Gyo-dae Station,' scheduled to occur from 2025 to 2027. This change is part of efforts to enhance user convenience and create a pleasant environment.

Detailed services for project promotion are currently underway. In August of last year, a 'Ground Investigation around Exit 3 of Gyo-dae Station' service was commissioned to assess structural stability. Furthermore, in May of this year, additional work to improve the escalator safety devices was also commissioned for design enhancement.

According to data from the Busan Transportation Corporation, the average number of passengers using Busan’s urban railway daily is about 900,000. Additionally, 99% of stations have a '1 Station 2 Lines' system with two or more exits and elevators.
The 4th Plan for Improving Accessibility for Transportation-Disadvantaged People from 2022 to 2026 sets "Implementation of a Barrier-Free Transportation Environment" as a key goal. The improvement of Gyo-dae Station will be carried out in line with this policy direction.

According to the 'Annual Status of Elevator and Escalator Installation' data disclosed in 2024, there are currently 649 escalators operating in Busan’s urban railway stations. Additional installations are scheduled for this year, with the escalators at Exit 3 of Gyo-dae Station being a prominent example. Such facility expansion will contribute to enhancing user convenience.

After the completion of the project, the convenience of Exit 3 of Gyo-dae Station is expected to significantly improve. In particular, passengers accompanying elderly people and those with disabilities will find it much easier to access the station.
This will enhance the mobility of transportation-disadvantaged people and is expected to increase foot traffic in the surrounding business area. Additionally, a reduction in the risk of accidents is also anticipated.
