Left Gwangcheon, which runs through Jeonggwan-eup, the center of the northern part of Busan, has long been loved by local residents as a place for walking and relaxation. Now, this place will transform into the 2nd local garden of Busan, surpassing the simple waterfront space.

This marks the official designation of the second local garden by Busan City, following the Nakdong River Ecological Garden, and holds special significance as the first local garden in the East Busan area.

With this registration, Jeonggwan will become a symbolic location of a garden city where nature and culture harmoniously coexist, positively influencing the spread of ecological culture values and tourism in the Gijang area. The transformation of Jeonggwan will provide new experiences for local residents and visitors.

The Left Gwangcheon Local Garden will be created along a 3.5 km section from Mojun Bridge to Dalum Bridge in Jeonggwan-eup. This garden will cover a total area of about 122,000㎡ and will be divided into four themed parks, each conveying different meanings.

First, the 'Garden of Warmth' expresses warmth with soft plants like pampas. The second, 'Garden of Benefit,' is focused on healing plants such as herbs and medicinal plants to wish for health. The third, 'Garden of Welcome,' is an open space that is easily accessible to anyone, providing friendliness to visitors. Lastly, the 'Garden of Longing' creates emotional scenes that evoke hometown memories and nostalgia, offering deep impressions to visitors.

These themed gardens are designed not only for viewing but also for natural healing, emotional experiences, and community activities. Various amenities such as parking lots, restrooms, and relaxation facilities will also be provided alongside the gardens.

To designate Left Gwangcheon as a local garden, Gijang-gun established the 'Left Gwangcheon Garden Team' on January 1, 2025. They also enacted relevant ordinances to lay the groundwork for systematic operation. In particular, Gijang-gun plans to develop Left Gwangcheon into a garden where ecological culture and humans harmoniously coexist, drawing from their experience in continuously creating wildflower and four-season flower paths.

In the creation and operation of the garden, various programs will be introduced to encourage participation from residents. There will be content focusing on community activities such as walks, gardening experiences, and small music concerts, aimed at spreading the garden culture within the city. These efforts are expected to make significant contributions to the development of garden culture in Gijang-gun.

Will It Become a Cornerstone for the Expansion of 'Green City Busan'?

In 2023, Busan City officially registered Nakdong River Ecological Garden as a local garden, starting to implement a branding strategy called 'Garden City Busan'. In this context, Left Gwangcheon is gaining attention as an example of expanding this strategy into the East Busan area.

From a journalist's perspective, Left Gwangcheon is not just an urban river, but a 'testbed for the garden of the future in Gijang.'
If Busan expands its ecological axis centered around Nakdong River in the west and Left Gwangcheon in the east,
it would significantly contribute to balanced urban development and strengthening local identity.

The Left Gwangcheon Local Garden can play an important role in utilizing Busan's natural resources and spreading garden culture. The potential for this is very high.

Gijang Left Gwangcheon, Becoming a 'Garden in the City' That People Want to Walk Through

Registered as the 2nd local garden, Left Gwangcheon is now set to transform into a place where ecology and culture harmonize. Gijang-gun and Busan City are systematically preparing through ordinances and the establishment of dedicated teams.

This garden will become a living space that provides healing in residents' daily lives, transcending the simple viewing space.

In the future, Left Gwangcheon will evolve into an urban garden that captures the emotions and lives of Busan citizens, not just a simple river.
