Signing of Memorandum of Understanding for the Establishment of Public Office in Busan Port North Port
A memorandum of understanding has been signed to build a public office in the Busan Port North Port Phase 1 redevelopment area.
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced on May 15 that it has entered into an agreement with the Namhae Regional Coast Guard and the Busan Fire Disaster Headquarters at the Busan Port North Port Redevelopment Promotion Center.
The main goal of this agreement is to design a public office within the Busan Port North Port Phase 1 redevelopment site to enhance public safety and increase operational efficiency. It is expected to contribute to the safety and development of the local community.
Site and Architectural Plan for North Port Public Office
There is a site for the newly created Namhae Coast Guard and Eastern Fire Station (tentative name) within the Busan Port North Port Phase 1 redevelopment area. The area covers approximately 13,000㎡ and is designated as public comprehensive land (H-3).
The land registration procedure has been completed after the development by the Busan Port Authority.
The Namhae Regional Coast Guard, located in Choryang-dong, Dong-gu, Busan, has a site area of 9,163㎡ and consists of 1 basement and 12 above-ground floors. The total floor area amounts to 10,074㎡.
The Eastern Fire Station (tentative name) is also situated in the same area, with a site area of 3,494㎡. This fire station is designed to have 4 above-ground floors, with a total floor area of 5,794㎡.
According to the memorandum of understanding signed this time, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries is expected to register the two sites as national property with the Busan Port Authority. Additionally, by the second half of this year, it plans to complete the transition and disposal procedures for national property management and transfer ownership of the lands to the Namhae Coast Guard and Eastern Fire Station.
Effects of North Port Phase 2 Redevelopment and Enhancement of Public Safety
The relocation of the Namhae Coast Guard and Eastern Fire Station occurs in accordance with the North Port Phase 2 redevelopment plan. This is a measure to enhance safety through the reallocation of public safety facilities, whereby the facilities of the existing Namhae Coast Guard and Busan Fire Disaster Headquarters located in the North Port Phase 2 area will be moved to the North Port Phase 1 redevelopment area to strengthen public safety capabilities.
In addition to the multi-purpose port area to be developed cooperatively by Busan Port Authority and six other agencies, the H-3 public office site will also be managed separately from the Busan Regional Joint Government Building.
This measure is expected to contribute to the integration of public safety infrastructure within the North Port Phase 1 redevelopment area alongside the Busan Regional Joint Government Building, which is set to be completed in the second half of 2028. The anticipated synergy effect will significantly aid local development.
Expected Effects of Establishing a Public Office in Busan Port North Port
With the establishment of a public office in Busan Port North Port, it is expected that the working conditions of both the Namhae Coast Guard and Eastern Fire Station will be significantly improved. When these two institutions come together in one location, rapid and effective response during emergencies will become possible.
Especially, North Port is an area where traffic congestion and safety issues frequently occur, centered around marine and port activities. The relocation of the Namhae Coast Guard and Eastern Fire Station will contribute to solving these issues.
Once the Phase 1 redevelopment project of Busan Port North Port is completed, it is anticipated that the marine safety and port management capabilities of Busan Port will be further strengthened, ensuring greater safety for local residents and visitors.
