This project, now in its fourth year, focuses on supporting alley commercial district specialization projects centered on a 15-minute living area using local resources and culture.

With the enactment of the ordinance supporting the cultivation of alley commercial district communities in Busan Metropolitan City on July 14, 2021, this project aims primarily at organizations consisting of more than 30 small business owners.

The total budget is set at 1 billion won, which aims to contribute to the organization, specialization, and activation of alley commercial district communities and enhance their self-sustainability.

Selection of new alley commercial district communities

The newly selected alley commercial district communities this year are as follows.

These include 40 Steps in Jung-gu (55 Haegwan-ro), Haeridan-gil in Haeundae-gu (510-7 U-dong), and Nakjo Hana-gil in Saha-gu (704-1 Dadaro).

Additionally, Jangrim Alley Switch in Saha-gu (155 Jangrim-ro) and Busan National University Merchant Association in Yeonje-gu (10 Gyodae-ro 24beon-gil) have also been selected as new commercial districts.

These alley commercial districts are expected to contribute to the revitalization of the local economy.

Each local alley commercial district will receive a support fund of 25 million won. This funding will be used to form alley commercial district communities and enhance the capacity of merchants, as well as for branding and developing joint marketing strategies.

Through this project, small business owners will be encouraged to develop the ability to identify and solve problems, thus promoting the revitalization of the alley economy.

Evaluation of existing alley commercial districts and selection of excellent alleys

Busan City analyzed the existing 9 alley commercial districts and selected 2 as excellent alleys. The selected locations are the Hwamyeong Rose Village Merchant Community in Buk-gu and the Namcheon Barado Merchant Association in Suyeong-gu, located near Hwamyeong-dong Rose Garden and at 15 Namcheon Barado, Gwangalli, respectively.

The selected excellent alleys will operate commercial district development programs tailored to local characteristics based on a support fund of 100 million won. Through this concentrated nurturing process, they plan to revitalize the local economy.

At Hwamyeong Rose Village, various rose-themed content will be developed, a cultural festival featuring food will be held at Hwamyeong Rose Park, and events like a children's drawing competition and Rose Market Day will be conducted.

Namcheon Barado will implement customized programs for small businesses and enhance the appeal of the commercial district through seasonal market operations and stamp tour events. Additionally, there are plans to conduct archiving work to document the stories of the commercial district.

Moreover, the remaining 7 existing alley commercial districts will receive support funds ranging from 25 million won to 50 million won depending on their assessment grades. Those designated as grade A, including Kkangri-dan-gil in Jung-gu, Oncheoncheon Cafe Street in Dongnae-gu, Munmun Sanghoe in Nam-gu, and Hari-dan-gil in Saha-gu, will each receive 50 million won in support, while grade B districts such as Joonsai Merchant Association in Busanjin-gu, Namsan-ro Merchant Association in Geumjeong-gu, and Garok Park Merchant Association in Sasang-gu will receive 25 million won. This support will serve as a crucial foundation for the activation of the alley commercial districts.

Operation of alley commercial district managers (coordinators)

Busan City operates on-site managers (coordinators) to activate local alley commercial districts. These individuals help organize communities and provide counseling and support related to the commercial district.

They also carry out promotional marketing and environmental improvement tasks tailored to the characteristics of each commercial district and promote collaborative events. The alley commercial district managers plan to enhance business participation through cooperation with small businesses and establish a sustainable economic structure.
